Privacy Policy

1. Introduction and scope

This Privacy Policy describes how Untethr LLC ("Untethr", "we", "us") handles information in connection with this website (untethr.llc) and the apps we publish for iPhone and iPad through the Apple App Store (together, the "Services"). It applies to all Untethr apps unless an app links to its own separate policy.

2. Summary

Our apps are designed not to collect your personal data. They have no sign-up and no accounts on our servers, do not show ads, do not include third-party advertising or marketing SDKs, and do not track you across apps or websites. Our apps are intended for adults 18 and older, and age is confirmed through Apple's Declared Age Range capability — we never see your birthdate. The Untethr app is a peer-to-peer social network, and it is zero-knowledge: what you post and what you send is end-to-end encrypted, and at no point can it be read by anyone other than you and the intended recipient. Our servers write no logs to disk; they hold only transient, de-identified operational data in memory, which disappears within at most 72 hours. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data.

3. Information we do not collect

Unless an app's App Store listing states otherwise, our apps do not collect:

• names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other contact information;
• account credentials — there is no sign-up and no account on our servers. Your identity on the network is a key pair generated on your device, which is what lets a block you set persist; it is never sent to us;
• your date of birth or exact age — age eligibility is confirmed through Apple's age range attestation, which provides only an age-range signal, never your birthdate (see Section 4);
• precise or coarse location data;
• the contents of what you post or send — feed posts and messages are end-to-end encrypted and readable only by you and the intended recipient (see Section 6);
• contacts, photos, or other content stored on your device, except where you explicitly use an app feature to open or process such content, in which case it is processed on your device;
• advertising identifiers (IDFA) — our apps do not track and do not display the App Tracking Transparency prompt;
• browsing history or activity in other apps.

4. Age requirement and age assurance

Our apps are intended solely for adults 18 years of age or older. To confirm eligibility, our apps use Apple's age range attestation (the Declared Age Range capability of iOS), which is based on the age range declared to Apple by the user. Apple provides the app with an age-range signal only — never your date of birth or identity documents. The age-range sheet is presented by iOS on your device, and the result is never transmitted to or stored on Untethr's servers. If no qualifying age range is shared, the app cannot be used. Apple's handling of your age information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

5. Information processed automatically

Technical information is processed to operate the Services:

• Untethr relays. Content moves directly between devices. Where no peer is available, a message is relayed by a service we operate, which holds it end-to-end encrypted until delivery. Undelivered messages are discarded within at most 72 hours.
• Operational data. To operate the Services and to detect and deny abusive traffic, those servers hold transient, de-identified operational data in memory. This data is never written to disk or to log files, contains no IP addresses, device identifiers, or usage data, and cannot reasonably be linked to you. It is discarded automatically within at most 72 hours. Beyond routing messages, servicing requests, and protecting the service, nothing is collected or retained.
• Apple. If you have enabled "Share with App Developers" in your device's analytics settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash reports and usage statistics. This data is collected by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy, is opt-in, and does not identify you to us.
• Website hosting. This website is a static site served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes standard technical request data (such as IP addresses) transiently to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not set cookies, and we do not run third-party advertising or tracking scripts on this website.

6. Your content

Content you create and settings you choose are stored on your device and, where an app supports it, in your personal iCloud account so your data can sync between your own devices. iCloud data is controlled by you and governed by your agreement with Apple; we cannot access it.

What you publish to a feed or send as a message in Untethr leaves your device end-to-end encrypted. Untethr is zero-knowledge: at no point can that content be read by anyone other than you and the intended recipient. Section 5 describes the data our services handle.

7. Third-party services

Our apps are free and distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store. We work only with third-party providers that commit, under their data processing terms, to provide at least the same level of protection for data handled in connection with the Services as is described in this policy.

8. Data retention and deletion

Our servers do not retain data about you. The transient, de-identified operational data described in Section 5 exists only in memory, is never written to durable storage, and is discarded automatically within at most 72 hours. A message queued on a relay is held encrypted only until it is delivered, and is discarded within at most 72 hours if it cannot be. Deleting one of our apps from your device deletes the data the app stored on that device (data you chose to sync to iCloud can be removed through your device's iCloud settings).

If you believe we hold any personal data about you — for example, an email address in correspondence you sent us — you may request access to it, ask us to delete it, or revoke any consent you previously gave by contacting contact@untethr.llc. We will honor verified requests as required by applicable law.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or certain U.S. states such as California), you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We honor these rights on request regardless of jurisdiction. We do not sell or share personal data as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we have not done so.

10. Children's privacy

The Services are intended for adults 18 and older and are not directed to anyone under 18 — including children under 13 within the meaning of the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our apps use Apple's age range attestation to prevent use by minors, and we do not knowingly collect personal information through our apps from anyone, including minors. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information (for example, by email), or is using the Untethr app, tell us at contact@untethr.llc. We will delete any personal information a minor has provided.

11. Changes to this policy

If our practices change — for example, if a future app requires an account or collects diagnostics beyond the transient, de-identified operational data described in Section 5 — this policy is updated before those changes take effect.
