Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose and scope

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes conduct that is prohibited when using the website at untethr.llc and the apps published by Untethr LLC (together, the "Services"). It is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service and our End User License Agreement. If this AUP conflicts with the Terms of Service (as to the website) or the EULA (as to the apps), the Terms of Service or the EULA, respectively, control.

The Untethr app is a peer-to-peer social network: you publish to a feed and send messages that travel directly between devices.

2. Content you share with others

These rules apply to everything you publish to a feed or send to another person through our apps. Do not create, post, send, or forward:

• material that sexually exploits or endangers a minor, or that sexualizes a minor in any way — we terminate the accounts of anyone responsible and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and to law enforcement;
• sexually explicit material, or unsolicited sexual content of any kind;
• harassment, bullying, stalking, or content directed at a person to intimidate or degrade them;
• threats of violence, incitement to violence, or content that promotes or celebrates violent extremism or terrorism;
• hate speech, or attacks on a person or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, disease, age, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation;
• another person's private information — home address, phone number, government identifiers, financial details — shared without their permission;
• content that infringes anyone's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights;
• material that impersonates another person or organization, or that misrepresents who you are in order to deceive;
• offers to buy or sell illegal goods or services, including controlled substances, weapons, and stolen data or credentials;
• bulk, automated, or repetitive unsolicited content, and malware or malicious links.

You are responsible for what you send. You keep ownership of your content and warrant that you have the right to share it.

3. Prohibited uses

You may not use the Services to:

• violate any applicable law or regulation, or encourage others to do so;
• infringe the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any person;
• harass, threaten, defraud, or harm others;
• create, store, or transmit unlawful or harmful material.

4. Technical abuse

You may not:

• probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Services, or breach or circumvent any security or authentication measures;
• interfere with or disrupt the Services, including by transmitting malware, viruses, or other harmful code;
• access the Services by automated means at volumes that degrade them, or scrape the Services;
• abuse the relay network — for example by flooding it with traffic, or by attempting to identify, deanonymize, or interfere with the peers routing other people's messages;
• forge headers or otherwise misrepresent the origin of any communication sent to or through the Services.

5. No circumvention

You may not:

• reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble our apps except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
• bypass, remove, or defeat any license, security, or usage restriction in our apps;
• defeat, or attempt to defeat, the content filtering or blocking features described in Section 6, or evade a block another person has placed on you;
• circumvent or misrepresent your age in the age-confirmation process — our apps may not be used by anyone under 18;
• rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute, or sublicense the Services.

6. Safety controls

The Untethr app provides:

• Filtering. The app filters objectionable material on your device.
• Reporting. Any post or message can be reported from inside the app.
• Blocking. You can block another user, which stops their posts and messages from reaching you.

Untethr is zero-knowledge: content is end-to-end encrypted, and at no point can it be read by anyone other than the sender and the intended recipient.

7. Enforcement

We may suspend or terminate access to the Services, remove content where it is within our control, and report activity to law enforcement where we believe it is appropriate. Material that sexually exploits a minor is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

We may update this AUP. The current version is posted on this page.

8. Reporting violations

Report content using the app, or contact us at contact@untethr.llc to report abuse, security issues, or suspected violations of this AUP. We provide timely responses to concerns. Contact your local emergency services for a threat to someone's safety.
