This page describes the age rating of the apps published by Untethr LLC ("Untethr", "we", "us") for iPhone and iPad through the Apple App Store, and the elements that led to it. Every app we publish is rated for adults only. This page applies to all Untethr apps unless an app links to its own separate age suitability page, and it is the page listed in the "Age Suitability URL" field in App Store Connect.

1. Age rating

Our apps carry the App Store's adults-only rating in every country and region where they are available. Apple labels that rating using the local rating system: 18+ in most countries and regions, A18 in Brazil, 19+ in the Republic of Korea, and other regional equivalents. Each is the tier reserved for adults. You must be at least 18 years of age to use our apps, and older where the rating or the law that applies to you sets a higher minimum age. Our apps are not offered in the App Store's Kids category.

2. Why the rating is 18+

Two things determine the rating. The first is our licensing policy: our End User License Agreement licenses our apps solely to adults 18 years of age or older, and our Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy state the same requirement. That requirement applies to every app we publish, whatever the app does.

Because our license sets a minimum age of 18, the store rating has to match it. Apple's guidance to developers states: "If your app has a EULA with minimum age requirements that exceed the rating that Apple calculated, you must override to a rating that adheres to the requirements." (Set an app age rating). Each of our apps is therefore rated 18+, overriding any lower calculated rating, so that the App Store listing, the license, and the in-app age check state the same minimum age.

The second is what the Untethr app is: a social network on which people publish to a feed and send each other messages over Bluetooth, directly between devices. That content comes from other people, not from us, and a network carrying it belongs with an adult audience — an independent ground for the 18+ rating.

The rating does not mean that we author mature material.

3. What the app contains, and what it does not

The categories below are the ones in Apple's age rating questionnaire, defined in Apple's age ratings values and definitions. They describe the Untethr app.

Those entries describe content we author. Untethr also carries content written by the people using it, governed by our Acceptable Use Policy and the controls in Section 4.

  • Capabilities — declared. Untethr declares three of Apple's capability descriptors: social media, user-generated content, and messaging and chat. People publish to a feed that reaches the peers around them, and they send each other direct messages. Both are opt-in. Untethr is zero-knowledge: content is end-to-end encrypted, and at no point can it be read by anyone other than the sender and the intended recipient.
  • Capabilities — not present. Untethr does not include a general-purpose web browser or unrestricted web access. It contains no advertising: no ads are shown, no third-party advertising or marketing SDKs are included, and no advertising identifier is requested. We do not track you across apps or websites, and no App Tracking Transparency prompt is presented.
  • In-App Controls. Untethr uses age assurance — Apple's Declared Age Range capability — to confirm that the person using the app is an adult, as described in Section 5. It offers no in-app parental controls.
  • Mature Themes. We include no references to or depictions of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, no horror or fear themes, and no profanity or crude humor.
  • Medical or Wellness. We do not provide medical or health information, diagnosis, treatment, or wellness advice.
  • Sexuality or Nudity. We include no sexual content, no nudity, and no mature or suggestive themes. Sexually explicit material between users is prohibited under our Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Violence. We include no violence — realistic, cartoon, fantasy, or otherwise — and no guns or other weapons. Threats of violence between users are prohibited under our Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Chance-Based Activities. We include no gambling and no simulated gambling, run no contests, and offer no loot boxes or other randomized items.

Untethr is free and is distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store. Our Privacy Policy describes what the app and our relays handle.

4. Safety, reporting, and moderation

The Untethr app carries the safeguards Apple requires of apps with user-generated content:

  • Filtering. Untethr filters objectionable material on your device.
  • Reporting. Any post or message can be reported from inside the app, and we provide timely responses to concerns.
  • Blocking. You can block another user, which stops their posts and messages from reaching you.
  • Contact. contact@untethr.llc, with full contact details in Section 8.

Our Acceptable Use Policy sets out what is not allowed and how it is enforced.

5. How age eligibility is confirmed

Our apps confirm eligibility using Apple's Declared Age Range capability. iOS presents the age-range sheet on your device; if you share your age range, Apple provides the app with an age-range signal only — never your date of birth, and never identity documents. The result is never transmitted to or stored on Untethr's servers. If no qualifying adult age range is shared, the app cannot be used. Apple's handling of your age information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Declared Age Range is an attestation: a consented, operating-system-mediated signal derived from the age range declared to Apple for the account in use. It is not identity verification, and it is not a government-ID check. It is the age assurance mechanism Apple provides on its platforms. Circumventing or misrepresenting your age in that process is prohibited by our Acceptable Use Policy.

6. Parental controls and Screen Time

On an iPhone or iPad, Screen Time and Content & Privacy Restrictions limit which apps can be downloaded and used according to their age rating, and Ask to Buy requires a parent or guardian to approve anything a child in a Family Sharing group downloads, including free apps. Setting the allowed rating below 18+ prevents our apps from being downloaded on that device.

Since February 24, 2026, Apple has blocked users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore who have not been confirmed as adults from downloading apps rated 18+ (Apple Developer News).

7. For parents and guardians

Our apps are not designed for, marketed to, or intended for minors. They are not directed to anyone under 18, including children under 13 within the meaning of the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Untethr is a social network for adults and may not be used by anyone under 18. The device settings described in Section 6 prevent installation on a young person's device.
